Design for Innovations

A portfolio of services dedicated to the making or supporting the making of new products (product innovations) or processes (process innovations). The scope of our assistance involves activities directed at developing brand-new product or process solutions for our Clients that will mark them off from the rest of the filed in which they operate. Creation activities can also be focused on improvement and modification of existing products and processes in order to achieve the competitive advantage.

Design for Innovations includes:

Design on Demand

The main thrust of activities making up this service offering is directed at helping Clients achieve the required product or process technical parameters / physical-chemical properties. The most common motivator here is a desire to achieve parameters that surpass those of the competitors.

Design for Patentability

The aim of this service category is to develop an innovation that guarantees patentability, that is, a solution which is new, has a high level of innovative content and is suitable for industrial application. This service offering includes the so-called patent workarounds, that is, development of solutions that perform analogical functions as the patent-protected solutions belonging to the competitors but without breaching any of the inherent industrial property rights. In projects involving developing innovations within the purview of patent protection, we use the proprietary tool developed by Professor Sergei Ikovenko of MIT.

Design for Recycling

This type of service category is concerned primarily with developing innovative solutions designed to maximise the use of recyclables, recover the raw materials after a product life cycle, minimise the use of raw materials in the production process, and reduce the amount of production waste.

Design for Cost Reduction

This service is commonly used with mature products (or highly fine-tuned technological processes) which do not require parameter modification but which can be optimized cost-wise. Creation activities seek to identify product or process modifications that would bring down the unit costs of production.

The Design for Innovation team’s deliverable to the Client includes:

  1. Documentation consisting of:
  • description of the development path leading to the innovative solution;
  • description of the solution (technical parameters, properties, functionalities);
  • comparison of the parameters achieved with the preliminary requirements;
  • technical drawings.
  1. Realistic technological demonstrators;
  2. Demonstrator test results confirming preliminary requirements;
  3. Estimated unit costs to implement the innovation.

Additionally, at our Clients’ request, we can prepare:

  • virtual 3D model of the selected solution;
  • end solution prototype and a battery of tests involving the solution;
  • complete implementation guidance for selected solutions taking into account the Client’s resources and limitations;
  • novelty value of the innovation (including a guarantee of patent clarity);
  • technical / technological development forecast and strategy for the innovative solution
  • detailed financial forecasts for the business comparing the ‘without innovation’ and ‘with innovation’ scenarios.
